2013: A NEW LOCATION FOR THE FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais at the AP2!

« The hall of the AP2, located in the port, is a singular and symbolic object. Its interior volume is immense, bright, and its potential for use is exceptional. Implemented by the FRAC, as a catalyst of this new district, the idea behind the project is to keep the hall in its entirety. For this, the project creates a duplicate of the hall, in the same size, against sea side, which will contain the program of FRAC. The new building is juxtaposed delicately without competing with or disappearing next to the original. Duplication is the thoughtful response to the identity of the hall. Under a light and bioclimatic envelope, the inner structure and performance will determine prefabricated spaces which are flexible and scalable, with few constraints, to adjust to the needs of the program. The transparency of the skin provides a background see the volume of the art storage. The public walkway through the building becomes a covered street between the hall and the interior wall of the FRAC. Hall AP2 will remain a fully available space, which can accommodate either the FRAC, extend its activities, (exceptional exhibitions, large works, special handling) or independently to accommodate public events (concerts, fairs, entertainment, circus, sports ...) and which enriches the usage of the area. The operation of each building is separated or combined. The architecture of the hall at its current capacity is sufficient to make minimal interventions, targeted and limited. The budget allows the project to put in place the conditions and equipment for public use of the hall. The project creates an ambitious public facility, with a flexible capacity, which can operate at multiple scales from "routine" exhibitions to artistic events of far-reaching resonance, not only in the region, but also European and International, supporting the conversion of the port of Dunkerque. »
