A dialogue between contemporary art and historical collections on the theme of the human condition.
For several years, the collection of the FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais has been enriched by works on themes related to man and his place in society. People's relationship to the world around them, to individuals, the workplace, and the territory in which they live, are all issues of representation developed by contemporary artists.
The exhibition People and Places proposes to highlight the photographic collection of the FRAC with works from the permanent collection of the Musée des Augustins. A historic confrontation between artists’ points of view is brought together, however each of them could lead to our own observation and examination of the everyday.
By offering social portraits of men and women during different eras, People and Places stresses the relevance of issues which are still current; leading us to remark that today's society is perhaps not so different from yesterday’s...
