The exhibition consists of hundreds of artworks from the collection of FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais. Some of them are on display during the whole exhibition period, some works of art are being replaced by others in the course of time. Out of Storage offers a glimpse of the dynamics within a collecting art institute and reveals functions that usually take place behind closed doors.
The visitor can take several routes through the exhibition, allowing him to share the view of diverse experts in order to gain insight into the various functions of FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais, such as restoration, education, research and presentation.
The exhibition takes place in the Timmerfabriek, the former crate factory of the ceramics factory Sphinx. It was built in 1905 and has been on the list of national monuments since 1996.
The Timmerfabriek is located next to the harbor 't Bassin, within the Belvédère area. The building will be renovated over the next years, to become the beating cultural heart of Belvédère. Out of Storage is a collaborative exhibition between Marres Project and The FRAC Nord-Pas de Calais. Marres, Centre for Contemorary Culture, initiates exhibitions, lectures, research, publications and projects, rooted in a cultural, philosophical background and a specific interest in the problem of actuality. Out of Storage is the first project of Marres Projects. Marres Projects functions as a catalyst for regional and international collaboration and addresses cultural and geopolitical themes in the form of exhibitions, publications and events.
